Scene 1 Final Showing

Dramatic Monologue

And Turning, Stay by Kellie Powell

AMY:
Don't you dare walk away from me! And don't tell me you're sorry! And don't tell me to forget it, and don't you dare tell me to "let it go." God knows, I'd like to. I wish I could, but I can't! I can't forget that we had something, and you're running away. You're running away! Don't you see, Mark? You're running from what I've searched for all my life! Why, because you're scared? Well, I'm scared too, but you and I - we have something worth fighting for. We could make it work, I'm not saying it would be easy, but I care about you. And I know deep down, under this (Spitting out the word.) bravado, you care about me. And that's what it's all about, Mark, don't you get it? It's the human experience. You can pretend all you want, but you're only lying to yourself. You're denying the simple and wonderful fact that you are emotional, and vulnerable, and alive.
Can you honestly stand there and tell me that I mean nothing to you? That everything that happened that night was a lie? That you feel nothing? (AMY is crying or close to it. The following is a painful statement that she makes not to attack or threaten Mark but rather, to allow herself closure with the situation.) I feel sorry for you, Mark. I'll move on. I'll find someone else. I'll be all right, because I will know that I tried. That I did everything I could. But someday you will look back, and you will realize what you threw away. And you will regret it always.

Comedic Monologue: Tomorrow's Wish by Wade Bradford

I kissed a boy once. At least I tried. I don't know if it counts if they don't kiss back. But I tried to kiss a boy and it almost worked. Most of the time Grandma and I don't get to see folks much, but we go into town. Sometimes. And Grandma says I just have to be careful to mind my manners, and Grandma says I'm real good at being careful, but sometimes I get so bored in that little town. Only one video store. Only two churches. And the park only has two swings and a pool that never gets filled up anymore. But in our little town there is a boy named Samuel. He's a bag-boy at the grocery store. He does it just right and never squishes the eggs. And he has red hair and green eyes. And... (giggles at memory) freckles all over his face! And Samuel is so nice. So nice to me and Gram. He would always smile and say "thank you" and "you're welcome". If he says "Have a nice day.", then you do! That's how good he is at his job. And I always wanted... I always wanted to be close to him, or talk to him, without Gram around. And one day when Grandma got a really bad cold, I got to go to the store all by myself. And I bought some oyster crackers and some medicine. Then I got to watch Samuel all by myself. Watch him do his bag boy job. I just stared and stared, trying to count all of those handsome freckles. Then, he asked if there was anything else I wanted. I just whispered "Yes." (Pauses, closes eyes in remembrance.) And then I grabbed him and MmmmmmmMM! (Pretends she's grabbing and kissing him.) That was my first kiss. It was the most romantic moment of my life. Until the manager puled me off of him.

Classical Monologue: Antony & Cleopatra by William Shakespeare

Oh Charmian,
Where think'st thou he is now? Stands he, or sits he?
Or does he walk? Or is he on a horse?
O happy horse, to bear the weight of Antony!
Do bravely horse! For wot'st thou whom thou movest?
The demi-Atlas of this earth, the arm
And burgonet of men. He's speaking now,
Or murmuring "Where's my serpent of old Nile?"
For so he calls me: now I feed myself
With most delicious poison. Think on me,
That am with Phoebus' amorous pinches black,
And wrinkled deep in time? Broad- fronted Caesar,
When thou wast here above the ground, I was
A morsel for a monarch: and great Pompey
Would stand and make his eyes grow in my brow;
There would he anchor his aspect and die
With looking on his life.

Acting Overview

I feel as an actor I do a good job visualizing what a scene should look like and using things I've seen or done to make charachters more relatable. I don't really think I'm that strong of an actor so I have a lot of room to improve. I want to improve on my ability to memorize lines quickly. Once I am confident with the lines, I start to act more so the faster I can get the lines down, the quicker I can develop my character further. As I'm sure everyone is afraid of, I don't like knowing people are judging me. With dance it's ok because you don't have to talk and you're being yourself for the most part. That is something you just have to face and get over though. People are going to judge everything you do anyway, so it is definitely something you have to face.

My Autobiography

My name is Hallie Mariah Lawrence. I am 17 years old and my birthday is 31 August, 1994. I am an only child and I hope to attend Clemson in the fall as a Pre-Vet major. I have one dog, Decoy, one cat, Gatsby, and two horses, High Noon and Indiana. I have been dancing for 15 years, I also run cross country and pole vault. I enjoy photography and traveling probably because I was born and raised in Rock Hill and have never even moved houses. I'm a pretty quirky person but luckily I have the best friends ever that appreciate me at my weirdest points.

So we can find connections, I'll list a bunch of my favorite things. My favorite books are The Great Gatsby, anything by F. Scott Fitzgerald really, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. I also enjoy comic books! (if that counts?) My favorite are the X-Men series. This is also one of my favorite movie series. My absolute favorite movie of all time is The Lion King! I cry every time, it's kind of embarrassing. Legally Blonde, Miss Congeniality, and When in Rome are some other favorites. When it comes to music I like a variety of different genres. I like smoother stuff like Jason Mraz, Matt Nathanson, and Adele to more folksy things like Regina Spektor and Mumford & Sons to more alternative bands like The Killers, Of Monsters and Men, and Linkin Park, and those fun pop songs that just make you want to dance around. Basically anything that isn't country or rap. My favorite TV shows include Psych, New Girl, and Pretty Little Liars. I also really enjoy infomercials, But WAIT theres more! My favorite animal is a sloth because I think they're so adorable! Green and Navy are my favorite colors. My favorite foods are potato soup, steak, and red velvet ice cream. FUN FACT: I didn't even like steak until like two summers ago when I went to the beach with my friend. Her grandpa was making steaks for dinner and it was either steak or starve, so I chose steak and the rest is history.

Well I think this more than you'll ever need to know about me and I can't really think of anything else sooooooo I guess I'm done. Bye class!
